Abstract— Flexible Alternating Current Transmission System (FACTS) devices are solid state converters that have the capability of controlling various electrical parameters such as reactance, power angle and voltage in a power system. Optimal selection and location of FACTS devices play a vital role in improving the static and dynamic performance of the power system. In this paper, the location of FACTS devices has been determined the use of simple methods by utilization of bus voltage responses in an IEEE 14 bus system. The methods used are static and the buses with the lowest voltage magnitudes are the best locations for placing the devices. The methods used are OPF using MATLAB®Matpower Toolbox Version 5.1, CPF via MATLAB®PSAT Toolbox and faulted bus method. The paper further discusses the bus voltage stability enhancement and loss reduction by use of UPFC, SSSC and IPFC FACTS in an IEEE 14 bus system with fault applied at bus 04en_US
